K-rauta Store Lahti

Energy-efficient commercial building

The Lahti K-rauta is a prime example of an energy-efficient commercial building. The Kesko Group is committed to ecological efficiency and has signed an energy efficiency agreement for retail trade. Despite the strict energy efficiency criteria imposed, the premises are welcoming, well-lit and well ventilated.

K-rauta in Lahti, which has a floor area of 8 382 m2, was completed in 2008 and is one of Kesko's stores with improved energy efficiency. A well-functioning system consisting of, among other things, good thermal insulation and heat recovery in the ventilation process plays a major part in the energy efficiency. Ruukki's frame, wall and roof structures helped to achieve the result and they substantially save in heating costs.

"To reduce the lifecycle energy consumption of the structures, we have, together with Ruukki, developed a frame and external shell solution tailored to meet our needs. Nine stores have already been built using this concept," -Ari Pärssinen, store site director of Rautakesko

Ruukki's delivery: 2010
  • Sandwich panels with a mineral wool core for the external walls of the building, total 2,900 m2,
  • load-bearing roof profiles,  were supplied for the heat-insulated roof structure, total 10,200 m2.
