Built in 1957, the so called “Rheinvorlandspeicher” in the Port of Mannheim has been empty for around 20 years.
In mid-2013 the abandoned 7-storey building saw its renaissance as a form of hotel and chic boutiques, haute cuisine as well as office premises.
Ruukki delivered 3,000 m2 of the weather-resistant construction steel in the form of ready-to-install rainscreen panels – Ruukki Design Cor-Ten® S7.
"The new facade reflects the changing requirements while emphasising the identity of the building as an industrial monument. Cor-Ten does not align with the style of neighbouring buildings, but all the more with the surrounding utilisation: no other material could be more cost effective or better suited for ports and harbours."
