FAQ

In installation instructions there is a mention that Ruukki Classic shouldn't be installed to roof slopes less than 1:7. Why there is this restrcition and what might be the implication if the product is installed to low pitched roofs slope less than 1:7?

The minimum slope is set due to reason that we can't quarantee flawless functionalty of the product in described roof slopes. If the roof slope is less than 1:7 in some cases ice, dirt, leafs etc. could create a situation/enviroment where water can't run freely from roof. This can cause leakage in products joints.

How much gutters have to fall so that rainwater runs easily to down pipes?

It is recommended to install gutters so that the fall is about 2-3mm/meter.

How many down pipes I need?

When pane of roof is less than 10 meters you can use one down pipe and gutters that fall to down pipe direction. When pane of roof is more than 10 meters two down pipes  should be used. Also the falls should be towards those two down pipes.

What are the dimensions of the batten under my tile sheet roof?

When the roof truss interval is 900 or 1200 mm, a sufficient roofing batten material is a 32 x 100 mm timber batten or a ventilating steel batten. When using tile profile roofing sheets, the lowest roofing batten must be approx. 10 mm thicker than the standard batten e.g. 2 x (22 x 100 mm). To ensure the correct batten thickness, contact your structural designer.

What is the batten spacing for Monterrey?

The distance from fascia boards outer surface to the middle of second batten is 300 mm. The distance between rest of the battening boards is 350 mm. See our tile sheet installation instructions for more information.

What kind of maintenance steel roof needs?

To ensure optimal condition and long service life the roof should be inspected regularly. Usually rainwater is enough to keep the paint surface clean. But fallen leaves, twigs etc. are not always washed away by rainwater and should be cleaned annually. Roof valleys and rainwater systems also need to be cleaned annually.
Dirty or stained areas can be washed with a soft brush and water. Pressure washers (up to 50 bar) may also be used. More persistent dirt can be cleaned with detergent intended for cleaning painted surfaces. Follow the detergent’s usage instructions or contact the product manufacturer to find out more about its suitability. A difficult localised stain can be rubbed off with a cloth dipped in white spirit. The paint coating should be rinsed from the top down to get all the detergent off. Finally the rainwater systems must be rinsed with water.
Snow usually falls from painted roofs, and the snow that remains does not exceed the roof’s structural load capacity. However, if the snow load needs to be reduced, a layer of snow (~100 mm) should be left on the roof to protect the coating.

What kind of coatings Ruukki have for roofing?

For roofing products we have Ruukki Pural and Ruukki Polyester.
Pural is a polyurethane based coating, which is at its best in roofing and cladding sheets. It is easy to handle in the manufacture and installation of profile sheets. A slightly structured surface makes it resistant to corrosion by snow and ice, as well as to UV radiation. Pural’s characteristic qualities are its resistance to chemicals and the ease with which it can be repainted.
Products made of Pural coated steel comes with a 15-year warranty.
Polyester is recommended for sites where the coating does not have to be particularly weather-resistant. The coating is suitable not only for roofing and wall cladding, but also for other construction cladding.
Products made of Polyester coated steel come with a 10 year warranty.

What is the right length of roofing sheets? What length to order?

Length of a roofing sheet is measured from the outer surface of the farthest facing board at the eaves to the middle of the ridge. In order to get the right measurements for the order, it is useful to check the measurements of all roof panes in different places.
N.B. roofing sheets are later installed so that the roofing sheet length over the eaves is approximately 40–45 mm. This means that in ridge there is enough space for ventilation.

What is the minimum pitch to where steel roof can be installed?

Minimum pitch varies between roofing sheet models. For tile sheets the minimum pitch is 1:4 and for Classic it’s 1:7.

What those letters and number stand for in your product codes? e.g. Profiled sheet T19-20W-1150

Product name includes also a code part. The code part contains detailed information about product dimensions and specifications. In case of roofing sheets the logic is easy to remember when you have first learned it. For example the first number tells always how high the profile is. When the last stands for the effective width of the roofing sheet.

Find below detailed explanation of one of our roofing sheet.

Profiled sheet T20-30W-1090
T = trapezoidal profiled sheet
20 = height class of the profile (mm)
30 = crown width (mm)
W = profile comes with water groove
1090 = effective width of the profile (mm)
